And what can you say about license agreement terms?
MICROSOFT SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS

You may only use the software for your internal business purposes. You may not

• make more copies of the software than specified in this agreement or allowed by applicable law, despite this limitation;
.....
In any case patching a piece of software is a bad thing.
Any kind of warranty would be void, if you make alterations to the executable. There are other ways of making the user aware that he is entering an AX environment with a special purpose.
E.g. you can use the -startupmsg CLI parameter for the Axapta client executable ax32.exe.
C:\DynAx09\Client\Bin\Ax32.exe -startupmsg='Test_environment' C:\DynAx09\Client\APM.axc
This results in AX pausing and showing the specified message on top of the splash screen and forcing the user to click the ok button.
