Dynamics AX 5.0 / 2009 XP AOS Install Issue

If you get an error on the install of the AOS...

Search for "error 1001" in the event log found at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dynamics AX\Dynamics AX Setup Logs\[your most recent install date and time]\ObjectServer32 Log.txt. If it exists you will need to rename any folder in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog that starts with “Microsoft” temporarily until the AOS is finished installing then change them back when the install process is finished.

The installer tries to create an entry for “Microsoft Dynamics AX Workflow” and errors out if there is any entry in there sharing the same first eight characters.

Upon some further investigation we determined this issue was probably caused by a windows update sometime mid February 2010, and only effects Windows XP users trying to install the AOS.
